In art, as in life, the journey can be more meaningful than the destination. This sequence represents one of my own journeys. The first image was created digitally and incorporated recurring elements from my other works: whale motifs inspired by Northwest Coast basketry and geometric forms influenced by both contemporary Northwest

Coast and non-Indigenous art.

Intrigued by the minimalist approach, I translated the composition into a painting on wood. Not fully satisfied with that version, and drawn to the clarity of the white background in the digital work, I created another with a white ground and additional geometric elements.
