Frog Twins

This spindle whorl is decorated with two frogs positioned opposite one another on either side of the spindle hole. Stylistically, it combines the formline elements of the northern Northwest Coast tradition with a composition more typically associated with Salish spindle whorls.

Frogs are a favorite subject of mine to carve and paint. I occasionally find myself having extended conversations with them in my greenhouse and garden.
