Humpbacks
Humpback whales migrate annually past the Olympic Peninsula and the west coast of Vancouver Island. Along with gray whales, they were among the two dominant species traditionally hunted by the Indigenous peoples of the area.
This composition juxtaposes realistic depictions of humpback whales with whale imagery inspired by Makah and Nuu-chah-nulth basketry
