Historic photo transfers

Edward S. Curtis photographed Wilson Parker, a Makah whaler, in 1915. In these three photographs, Parker holds traditional whaling gear—a harpoon shaft and point and sealskin floats. I combined Curtis’s photographs with motifs drawn from Ozette art. This set, created for a descendant of Wilson Parker, was made using photo-transfer media and enamel.

The fourth image is a photograph of Ozette Village, taken by an unknown photographer in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. It shows the area where the Ozette archaeological excavations took place in the 1970s. I incorporated motifs from Ozette and elsewhere into the historic photograph.
